Late on a snowy Saturday afternoon, you head outside in a robe and cross the yard, flakes landing on your shoulders. Your breath fogs in the cold air. The backyard is yours alone, and so is the sauna.
For four on a budget, the best outdoor sauna is the Almost Heaven Pinnacle: $5,303 at Select Saunas as of September 2026, the lowest four-person price here, on a hardwired 240V, 30 amp circuit. Its compromise is a 69¼ inch ceiling inside, so measure the tallest person who'll use it. The circuit and the headroom narrow the rest of your shortlist before price does, and every electric heater here needs a 220 to 240 volt circuit.
One number to confirm first: Almost Heaven lists the Pinnacle 81½ inches tall outside and the Salem 75⅜, with the same interior height. If a branch or eave hangs over the spot, ask for the Pinnacle's drawing.
Three of the five makers behind these seven saunas publish figures that don't line up with each other, from the Palmer's headroom to the Cayman's power draw.
Quick picks
Choose by headcount, headroom and the circuit you can run.
Skip all of these if you can't add a 220 to 240 volt circuit and don't want a wood heater. If 120V is all you can add, two of the picks in our best outdoor infrared sauna guide, SunRay's Burlington and Grandby, run on a dedicated 120V, 20 amp circuit.
Based on the makers' own documents. Prices as of October 5, 2026. Almost Heaven, Select Saunas and Sun Home had sales running.
Below: first the circuit, then the headroom and the footprint, then each sauna with what it costs and what to confirm before you order.
The amps each sauna lists sort the field fastest.
Find the circuit you can add in the Power column, then read across to the size and the price.

Prices are the lowest we found on the maker's site or the retailers linked below, as of September 2026. Heater choice changes the price on most of these. The Almost Heaven, SunRay, Golden Designs and Sun Home prices include a heater. Topture's Dundalk prices do not, and the Elation's $6,975.50 is SaunaKits' price as of September 2026, so ask SaunaKits what it includes.
What this means for you: compare two prices only after you know what each one includes. All in, any electric model also needs its circuit, so add the electrician's quote to each, and add a heater to a Topture Dundalk. If you'd rather spread the cost, each product card below lists the seller's financing terms.
When you call the electrician, bring the model, whether it's hardwired or plugs in, and the volts and amps from the table. Add any GFCI line the maker gives and the distance from your panel to the spot.
Checkpoint: the circuit. Ask your electrician which 240 volt circuit your panel can take, then find your list:

The published interior heights tell most of the story, and they don't split cleanly by shape. Almost Heaven lists 69¼ inches inside both its Salem and Pinnacle barrels, but Dundalk's Elation drawing shows 81½ inches inside a barrel. So a barrel isn't automatically the low-ceiling option.
Among the cabins, SunRay lists 75 inches inside the Cayman and Golden Designs 81 inches inside the Gargellen. Dundalk lists 86¼ inches inside the Palmer on its website table, though the Palmer spec sheet says 72¼.
What this means for you: if anyone in your house is over about 5 foot 9, check the Almost Heaven numbers against their height before anything else. Tape a mark at 69¼ inches on a doorframe and have the tallest person who'll use the sauna stand under it. For more headroom, the Dundalk CT Elation shows 81½ inches on its drawing and the Gargellen lists 81. Plan the Palmer at 72¼ until Dundalk confirms the table's figure.
On the ground, the Salem is the smallest here at 78 by 47 inches. Footprint isn't a clean barrel win, though. The four-person Pinnacle, at 78 by 71 inches, takes more ground than the five-person Gargellen (81 by 60) or Luminar (82.25 by 51.75).
Dundalk's Elation, at 98 by 96 inches on its own drawing, has a larger footprint than either cabin from SunRay or Golden Designs, and it costs more than the Cayman. So tape out the footprint before you choose a shape.
The heat source matters as much as the shape. The Salem, Pinnacle and Cayman ship with electric heaters. The Elation and Palmer are also offered with a wood-burning heater, which doesn't need a 240 volt heater circuit. The Gargellen has both a stove and infrared panels, and the Luminar is infrared only.
The short version: measure the tallest person and the spot before you choose a shape.
Frost is on the lawn on an early December evening, and the porch light is on. The sauna stands on the level pad you poured, wired to the 240 volt circuit your electrician ran from the house. You step in and pull the door shut behind you. Then you sit back on the bench and ladle water on the stones.
The Salem is the one to get for two people on the smallest budget and the smallest spot. As of September 2026, it was $4,176 at Select Saunas, where the link below goes, and $4,036.50 on Almost Heaven's September sale, the lowest prices here. For that, you get a bench for two, 39¼ inches long, in a barrel with a 78 by 47 inch footprint.
Almost Heaven lists the Salem as holding "up to two people," with a 6 kW heater on "240V, 30-amp requirement, hard-wire connect." It's 78 by 47 by 75⅜ inches assembled and 75¼ by 39¼ by 69¼ inches inside. The sauna itself carries a limited lifetime warranty.
The savings stop at the sauna. The wiring is the same electrician's job as the Pinnacle's, so get that quote before you choose between them. Almost Heaven says it "ships within 6-8 weeks of purchase," so order at least 8 weeks before you want to use it.
Ask Almost Heaven for the Salem's drawing too; the Pinnacle section below shows why. If it clears your spot, order the Salem.
Check the Salem at Select Saunas
Almost Heaven Salem
A two-person barrel, 78 by 47 by 75⅜ inches outside, with 69¼ inches of headroom inside. Its 6 kW heater needs a hardwired 240V, 30 amp circuit. $4,176 at Select Saunas when we checked in September 2026.
Check the Salem at Select SaunasFinancing through Bread Pay (Comenity Capital Bank), 0–29.99% APR if approved. Lists HSA/FSA as a payment option.
For four people on a budget, the Pinnacle is our pick: $5,303 at Select Saunas as of September 2026, the lowest four-person price here, against Almost Heaven's own sale price from $6,060. That's room for four inside walls of "Ball-and-socket lumber: 1 ⅜″ thick."
The Pinnacle "holds up to four people." Almost Heaven lists it at 78 by 71 by 81½ inches assembled and 75¼ by 63¼ by 69¼ inches inside, with the same 6 kW, 240V, 30 amp hardwired heater as the Salem.
The barrel carries a limited lifetime warranty, but the heater has its own, shorter terms: Almost Heaven says Harvia heaters include a 1-year warranty on heating elements and 5 years on other components. Keep the heater's paperwork with your order. Plan on 6 to 8 weeks to ship.
Almost Heaven strongly recommends a solid foundation, but its outdoor sauna FAQ says a barrel can go on "a solid and flat piece of dirt or grass" if concrete, pavers or decking aren't an option. So plan on a solid foundation first, and keep solid, flat ground for when that isn't possible.
Confirm before you order: the Salem and Pinnacle share the same 78 inch outside width, the same 75¼ inch interior width and the same 69¼ inch interior height. They sit on the same 54 by 6 inch cradles, but Almost Heaven publishes their outside heights as 75⅜ and 81½ inches.
If a tree branch, eave or fence sits over the spot, plan on the taller 81½ inches and ask Almost Heaven in writing for the drawing of the model you're buying. If no drawing comes, Dundalk publishes a full drawing for the Elation, though at 88 inches high and 98 by 96 inches it needs more room above and around than either Almost Heaven barrel. If the drawing clears your spot, order the Pinnacle.
Check the Pinnacle at Select Saunas
Almost Heaven Pinnacle
The lowest price for four people in this guide: $5,303 at Select Saunas. It is 78 by 71 by 81½ inches outside, with the same 69¼ inches of headroom and the same 240V, 30 amp hardwired heater as the Salem.
Check the Pinnacle at Select SaunasFinancing through Bread Pay (Comenity Capital Bank), 0–29.99% APR if approved. Lists HSA/FSA as a payment option.
Choose the Elation if you want a roomier barrel, or wood heat in place of a 240 volt heater circuit. As of September 2026, SaunaKits listed it at $6,975.50.
Dundalk LeisureCraft says the CT Elation will "comfortably seat 4 people" on 23 inch wide benches, in white cedar with a flat wood floor. Almost Heaven's barrel benches are 16 inches wide. The Elation's heater options are a 7.5 kW electric heater, a wood heater or no heater.
Dundalk's drawing, dated April 2025, puts it at 98 inches wide, 96 inches long and 88 inches high, with a door opening 23 inches wide and 65 inches tall. The drawing is published, so you can plan the pad from the maker's own dimensions. Check the 65 inch door against your tallest bather.
The crate weighs 1,497 pounds, and Dundalk notes packaged weight varies with options. Plan how it gets from the truck to the spot before delivery day.
If you choose the electric heater, settle the circuit first. Dundalk's heater guide says electric heaters "need a dedicated 220V/40A circuit run by a licensed electrician." Dundalk's cabin spec sheets say 30 to 50 amps depending on the heater, so ask Dundalk in writing which circuit the 7.5 kW heater needs.
If you'd rather not run a heater circuit at all, the wood heater needs none. Once the pad and the path are planned, and SaunaKits has told you which heater its price includes, order the Elation with the heater you chose.

Dundalk CT Elation
Seats four on 23 inch wide benches, with 81½ inches inside on Dundalk's drawing. Order it with a 7.5 kW electric heater or a wood heater. $6,975.50 at SaunaKits, so ask what that price includes.
Check the Elation at Select SaunasFinancing through Bread Pay (Comenity Capital Bank), 0–29.99% APR if approved. Lists HSA/FSA as a payment option.
If you want a cabin of Eastern White Cedar under a steel shingle roof, with the option of wood heat, start with the Palmer. As of September 2026, it was $7,146 at Topture, heater sold separately.
The Palmer is the four-person model in Dundalk's Canadian Timber cabin line, "handcrafted in Ontario from locally sourced Eastern White Cedar" with 28-gauge steel shingles. Dundalk's website table lists 60 by 84 inches inside and 86¼ inches of interior height, the most in this guide if that figure holds. It recommends a 6 kW electric heater or a wood heater.
Confirm before you order: three of Dundalk's Palmer figures need the dealer's answer in writing.
If the dealer can't give you the base size, consider the Elation instead: Dundalk's April 2025 drawing gives its full footprint, 98 by 96 inches, and it also takes a wood heater. If Dundalk's answers fit your spot and your tallest user, order the Palmer.

Get the Cayman if you want a cabin with the heater in the price. As of September 2026, it was $5,690 at SunRay and at SaunaKits, the lowest price of any cabin here. The price covers a "genuine 6kW Harvia electric heater with stones," set in Canadian hemlock.
SunRay lists the Cayman (model 400D7) as a four-person cabin. It's 72 by 69 by 85 inches with an 85 by 69 inch roof footprint, and 810 pounds, which SunRay's product page calls shipping weight. SunRay says it heats to 180°F in 30 to 45 minutes, so switch it on that long before you want to step in.
The structure carries a 10 year warranty, though parts and electronics are covered for 1 year. At 810 pounds, it's lighter than the Elation's crate or the Luminar, which makes the trip from the truck to the spot easier to plan.
SunRay gives two assembly times. The spec sheet and the product page's overview both say "simple DIY assembly takes about an hour." The same product page also says it "Assembles in about two hours" with "two people and a screwdriver." Plan on two hours and two people.
Confirm before you order: SunRay's spec sheet lists the power as "8000 W · 220V, 40 amp," and its product page lists "Power draw 8,000 watts," for a sauna it describes as having a 6 kW heater. Those two numbers don't match.
Ask SunRay in writing which figure your electrician should size the circuit to, and give your electrician SunRay's answer before the circuit goes in. If SunRay won't say, the Almost Heaven Pinnacle also seats four, on a heater Almost Heaven lists at 240V, 30 amps, hardwired. It's a barrel, though, with 69¼ inches inside against the Cayman's 75. If SunRay's answer fits the circuit you can add, order the Cayman.
SunRay Cayman
A four-person hemlock cabin, 72 by 69 by 85 inches, sold with a 6 kW Harvia heater. SunRay's spec sheet lists "8000 W · 220V, 40 amp" for it, so ask which figure your electrician should size the circuit to. $5,690 at SunRay and at SaunaKits.
Check the Cayman at SaunaKitsFinancing through Shop Pay Installments (Affirm's lenders), 0–36% APR if approved. HSA/FSA through Truemed, which needs a Letter of Medical Necessity.
If you want both kinds of heat, the Gargellen is the only hybrid here: a stove and infrared panels in one hemlock cabin. As of September 2026, SaunaKits had the 2026 flat-roof model (GDI-8025-01) at $9,099, and Golden Designs lists it at $10,999.
Golden Designs lists the Gargellen as a five-person outdoor sauna with an "8.0 kw Stove with built in controls" plus full-spectrum infrared: "Total 10 Emitters: 4 Carbon PureTech™ Near Zero EMF Heating Panels and 6 Near Infrared Heating Elements." Golden Designs says the stove can take the room to 190°F and the infrared side to 140°F. So one cabin, on one circuit, gives you a stove session or an infrared one.
It's 81 by 60 by 87 inches outside and 74 by 53 by 81 inches inside, in reforested Canadian hemlock, and 735 pounds assembled. It ships in 8 boxes, at 1,050 pounds shipping weight, so clear a place to stage them on delivery day. The electrical line reads "240V / 40AMP (Stove & Full Spectrum)," so plan for the larger circuit.
Golden Designs doesn't put warranty terms on the Gargellen's product page. Its Hybrid/Outdoor Sauna Warranty page calls the coverage a "Limited Lifetime Warranty," then defines it in a footnote as 5 years on the wood structure, control panel, harnesses and lights. The stove falls under its own maker's warranty. Plan on the 5 years, and ask Golden Designs in writing which terms cover the GDI-8025-01.
Check the model number in your cart, too. Lower prices you may see as of September 2026, including $9,999 at Golden Designs and $7,999 at Select Saunas, are for the older Gargellen (GDI-8125-01). Golden Designs lists that one at 98.9 by 72.6 by 97.4 inches with its overhang and 1,075 pounds assembled. With the model number and the warranty terms confirmed, you'll know which Gargellen you're paying for.

Choose the Luminar 5 if you want a sauna you plug in rather than hardwire, aluminum outside and Canadian red cedar inside. At $13,899 as of September 2026, it's the most expensive sauna here; as of October 5, 2026, Sun Home's regular price was $14,499, with a sale running.
Sun Home lists the Luminar 5 as a five-person outdoor infrared sauna with an "Aerospace-grade aluminum" exterior and a Canadian red cedar interior. It is 82.25 inches wide, 51.75 inches long and 84 inches high, with a 24 inch door opening, and weighs 1,070 pounds. Sun Home's owner's manual sets the control range at 90 to 170°F.
It plugs into a NEMA L6-30 receptacle, and the spec sheet calls for a "Dedicated 240V / 30A circuit with GFCI protection. Licensed electrician required." So the electrician's job is a dedicated circuit ending in that receptacle. The sauna carries a limited lifetime warranty. If five seats is more than you need, the two-person Luminar is $10,999 as of September 2026.
The Luminar 5 spec sheet asks for "at least 8″ behind and beside the sauna, 12″ above the roof," and the product page wants it "at least 5 feet from other electrical devices." Sun Home's Luminar overview page still gives 4 to 6 inches and 20 to 24 inches. Go by the spec sheet for the model you buy, and ask Sun Home in writing which clearances govern it before you choose the spot. Check the 5 feet against any other electrical devices nearby, too.
The rest of Sun Home's line, its warranty definition and its return terms are in our Sun Home sauna review. For the Luminar against a traditional outdoor sauna at a lower price, see Sun Home vs Redwood Outdoors. If Sun Home's clearances fit your spot, order the Luminar 5.

Four figures here don't agree with the same maker's other figures: the Palmer's dimensions, the Cayman's power and assembly time, and the outside heights of the Almost Heaven barrels. Each pick block above gives both numbers and the question to ask.
Send these before you pay, so you order knowing which number your yard or your panel has to meet. Paste only the lines for the sauna you're ordering into an email to that maker or seller.
With those answers saved, you'll know which picks still fit your yard and your panel. For the breaker and GFCI wording behind each of these heaters, see our sauna heater breaker size and GFCI table.

Take these in order, since each one rules saunas in or out. The drawing above puts all seven footprints on one 1 foot grid, so you can set your spot against them.
If you'd rather build your own room than buy one of these, match the heater to the room volume with our sauna heater sizing guide.
How much does an outdoor sauna cost?
Among the seven outdoor saunas in this comparison, listed prices in September 2026 ran from $4,036.50 for the two-person Almost Heaven Salem on Almost Heaven's sale to $13,899 for the five-person Sun Home Luminar 5. Heater choice changes the price on most models, and Topture's Dundalk prices do not include a heater.
What is the smallest outdoor sauna in this comparison?
The Almost Heaven Salem. Almost Heaven lists it at 78 by 47 by 75⅜ inches assembled, holding up to two people, with a 6 kW heater on a 240V, 30 amp hardwired circuit.
Does an outdoor sauna need a 240 volt circuit?
Every electric heater in this comparison needs a 220 to 240 volt circuit: 30 amps for the Almost Heaven barrels, 40 amps for the SunRay Cayman and Golden Designs Gargellen, and 30 to 50 amps depending on the heater on Dundalk's spec sheets. The Sun Home Luminar needs a dedicated 240 volt, 30 amp GFCI circuit. A wood-fired Dundalk Elation or Palmer needs no heater circuit.
Do barrel saunas have less headroom than cabin saunas?
Not always. Almost Heaven lists 69¼ inches inside its Salem and Pinnacle barrels, but Dundalk's Elation barrel drawing shows 81½ inches inside. Among the cabins, SunRay lists 75 inches for the Cayman, Golden Designs 81 inches for the Gargellen, and Dundalk's website table 86¼ inches for the Palmer, although the Palmer spec sheet says 72¼.
Can an outdoor barrel sauna sit on grass?
Almost Heaven strongly recommends a solid foundation, but its outdoor sauna FAQ says a barrel can go on "a solid and flat piece of dirt or grass" if concrete, pavers or decking aren't an option. Check the weight the maker publishes against the surface, and follow the manual for the model you buy.
What is the difference between a traditional and an infrared outdoor sauna?
In this comparison, the Almost Heaven Salem and Pinnacle and the SunRay Cayman use electric sauna heaters, and the Dundalk Elation and Palmer take an electric or wood heater. The Sun Home Luminar 5 is infrared only, with a control range of 90 to 170°F in its owner's manual, and plugs into a NEMA L6-30 receptacle. The Golden Designs Gargellen has both: Golden Designs says its stove can take the room to 190°F and its infrared side to 140°F.
Tonight, walk out with tape and mark the footprint of the sauna you're leaning toward where it would sit, and look for any branch, eave or fence over the spot. Then take a photo of your electrical panel to show the electrician.
