Vellgus vs Mito Red Light: Size, Power, FDA Status, Returns and Warranty From Each Maker's Own Pages

By Evan Reid, with research from the HPG Research Team · Updated Oct. 5, 2026

The closest Vellgus vs Mito pair for a large red light panel is the Vellgus max 300 and the MitoMEGA 2.0. Each has 300 LEDs and a face of about 36 by 12 inches.

The mount and the return terms decide between them. For a door, with room to change your mind, start with the MitoMEGA 2.0: $1,049 as of October 5, 2026, with 60 days to return it and no restocking fee. For a floor stand you'll keep, the max 300's floor stand version puts panel and stand in one order, $1,300 as of that date.

One line changes how you'd buy the max 300: Vellgus's homepage promises a "30 Day Free Trial Period," but its policy charges a 20% restocking fee and makes sale items and stands final. Plan on the policy.

On September 26, 2026, we read both makers' product pages, manuals, policies and lab data, and searched FDA's databases.

What else separates them:

  • Price: As of October 5, 2026, the max 300 is $1,100 on sale with a door hook (regular $1,299), and at that sale price it's final too.
  • Returns: Mito's 60 days run from delivery, and Vellgus's 30 days run from purchase. If it might go back, buy under Mito's terms.
  • Warranty: 3 years on the max 300 and the 1500X, 2 on the MitoMEGA; weigh that year against Mito's longer return window.
  • Power: Mito publishes consumption for each panel (450 W for the MitoMEGA 2.0) and lab-measured wall draw for most. Vellgus publishes LED ratings only (1,500 W for the max 300), so get the label's input rating from Vellgus before you pick the outlet.
  • Irradiance: the makers don't measure it the same way, and Mito's own pages disagree on the MitoMEGA's lab figure, so leave it out of the decision.
  • FDA: Mito's panels appear in FDA's registration and listing database. We found no Vellgus listing under its own name on September 26. We found no 510(k) clearance for either brand's panels, though Vellgus's badge says "FDA CLEARED." If that badge is part of why you'd buy, ask Vellgus for the 510(k) number first.
  • Stands: the MitoMEGA is out, since Mito says its Original 2.0 series "is not stand compatible." For a stand that can still go back, that's the MitoPRO 1500X on Mito's floor stand; for one you'll keep, the max 300's floor stand version.
  • Recall: Mito has an open FDA Class II recall on a discontinued battery portable, the Mito Mobile Super, not on any panel compared here. FDA's recall database had no records under the Vellgus name.

The Vellgus pro is 20 inches long, about the length of Mito's half-body panels, and Vellgus labels it "Full Body." Mito's full-body panels run 36 to 43 inches. So for a full-body panel, shop the large row. Our guide to full-body red light panels compares panels and kits from nine makers, Vellgus and Mito included, up to 72 inches tall.

Which large panel to get: Vellgus max 300, MitoMEGA 2.0 or MitoPRO 1500X

These three are the closest large panels. Where they differ in practice is what you can mount them on and what happens if you want to send one back.

Checkpoint: the mount. All three ship with a door hook, so a door keeps every one on your list. For a floor stand, the MitoMEGA 2.0 drops out, because Mito says its Original 2.0 series "is not stand compatible." That leaves the max 300's floor stand version and the MitoPRO 1500X on Mito's floor stand.

Read down to the Stand and Elective return rows, where the three split.

It's a weekday morning before work, in the spare room. The 36 inch panel hangs from its door hook on the back of the door, the cord run down to the outlet you checked. You close the door and switch the panel on.

Match your spot to one of the three:

  • You'll hang it on a door: the MitoMEGA 2.0.
  • You want a floor stand, and it might go back: the MitoPRO 1500X on Mito's floor stand.
  • You want a floor stand, and you're sure of the spot: the Vellgus max 300 floor stand version, the lower price of the two stand routes as of October 5, 2026. Check today's max 300 price at Vellgus

MitoMEGA 2.0: a door-hung panel you can still send back

The MitoMEGA 2.0 is our pick for a door. As of October 5, 2026, it's $1,049, the lowest price of these three, with a door hook, hanging cables and vinyl straps in the box. Mito takes it back within 60 days of delivery with no restocking fee, and it publishes the draw: 451.5 W measured at the wall.

  • Best for: a door or a hanging mount, with 60 days to change your mind.
  • Skip it if: you want a floor stand. Mito's universal stand listing says the Original 2.0 series "is not stand compatible."
  • Main compromise: a 2 year warranty, against 3 years on the max 300 and the 1500X.

Mito's own pages don't match on two lines here. The product page claims more than 74 mW/cm² in the lab, against a measured 67.5 peak on Mito's lab page, and the MitoMEGA's EMF answer sits under a MitoMID 2.0 heading. Neither touches the mount or the return terms, so plan on the lab page's figure and send Mito question 10 below.

Measure the door, and once Mito answers, order the MitoMEGA 2.0 from Mito's store.

MitoPRO 1500X: a floor stand you can still send back

The 1500X is the one to get if you want a stand and a way back. As of October 5, 2026, the panel is $1,299 and the MitoPRO X Floor Stand is $139, bought as two items. At 43 inches, it's the longest face of the three, on a stand that leaves the door free. Mito's 60 days carry no restocking fee and no exclusion for stands, and the warranty runs 3 years.

  • Best for: a floor-standing panel you may still return within 60 days.
  • Skip it if: the spot can't take 43 inches of panel plus the roughly 6 to 8 inches Mito says a stand adds to the panel height.
  • Main compromise: panel and stand come to $1,438 as of October 5, 2026, by our arithmetic ($1,299 plus $139), $138 more than the max 300's floor stand version.

Mito's product page lists the 1500X at 10 by 43 inches, and its lab page at 42 by 9. Plan the space around 43 inches, and ask Mito in writing which size is right and whether the manual's 25 lb "Gross Weight" includes packaging.

With Mito's answer, order the panel and the stand together from Mito's store.

Vellgus max 300, floor stand version: the panel and its stand in one order

Get the max 300's floor stand version if you want a 36 inch panel on a stand you'll keep. As of October 5, 2026, it's $1,300 with the stand, and its warranty runs 3 years.

  • Best for: a floor-standing 36 inch panel in a spot you're sure of.
  • Skip it if: there's a chance it goes back. Stand versions are final sale.
  • Main compromise: Vellgus publishes no wall draw for it. The homepage gives a 1,500 W LED rating, and the product page no watt figure.

Confirm before you order: plan on Vellgus's written policy rather than the homepage's "30 Day Free Trial Period," and ask Vellgus in writing whether the trial covers the floor stand version. If Vellgus won't confirm it, the MitoPRO 1500X above avoids the question, since Mito's policy has no exclusion for stands.

Two more lines on Vellgus's pages don't match. The homepage lists the max 300 at 26.2 by 8.27 inches beside 92 by 30 cm. That 92 by 30 cm is the product page's 36.2 by 11.8 inches by our arithmetic, so plan the wall on 36.2 by 11.8. And the "FDA CLEARED" badge sits beside text calling the panels "FDA listed Class II devices," and nothing we found in FDA's records supports "cleared."

Once Vellgus answers in writing and the spot is taped out, order the floor stand version.

Can you compare Vellgus and Mito irradiance numbers?

Not as the makers publish them. The page-one roundup that sets Vellgus beside Mito compares them by irradiance at 6 inches and doesn't say where either number came from, and the two makers don't measure it the same way.

Vellgus's product pages and homepage give one figure, more than 245 mW/cm², for the elite, pro and max 300. Its product pages give no distance. Its homepage table labels the row "Irradiance at 0 in," meaning measured at the panel's face.

A Vellgus blog post from June 2025 gives a different number, up to 150 mW/cm² at 6 inches, and its How It Works page gives a third, 120 to 190 mW/cm², with no distance. No Vellgus page names the instrument used.

Mito publishes two figures per panel at 6 inches. It says the higher one comes from a consumer solar meter, and the lower one from lab spectroradiometer testing by LightLab International, which Mito describes as ISO/IEC 17025 accredited, with report numbers listed. The solar meter figure is roughly double the lab figure.

Mito's own pages don't fully agree with each other, though. The MitoMEGA 2.0 product page claims more than 74 mW/cm² in the lab, and Mito's lab data page lists a measured peak of 67.5 and an average of 57.3. The MitoMAX 2.0 page claims more than 70 against a measured peak of 68.3, and the MitoPRO 1500X page claims more than 73 against 72.5.

What this means for you: leave irradiance out of the Vellgus vs Mito decision. The differences you can check are elsewhere: the mount, the outlet, the return terms and FDA's own records.

A standard US duplex wall outlet on a painted wall
At 120 volts, 1,500 W would be 12.5 amps, most of an ordinary 15 amp circuit.

Power draw and plugs: what each panel asks of your outlet

Mito publishes a power figure for every panel and measured wall draw for most, while Vellgus publishes LED ratings only, which is the clearest documentation gap between the two brands.

On Mito's lab page, most measured numbers land below the stated ones or within a couple of watts. Three come in noticeably higher: the MitoMIN 2.0 measured 97.3 W against a stated 85 W, the MitoMID 2.0 170.3 W against 150 W, and the MitoPRO 300+ 96.6 W against 90 W. For those three, plan the outlet around the measured number.

Vellgus's LED ratings are the LED count times a 5 W chip, which gives 600 W for the pro and 1,500 W for the max 300. If the max 300 drew that at the wall, it would take 12.5 amps at 120 volts, most of an ordinary 15 amp circuit. Mito's closest panel, at its stated 450 W, works out to about 3.8 amps. We can't tell you Vellgus's real draw because Vellgus doesn't publish it.

Confirm before you order: ask Vellgus for the input rating on the panel's label, and choose an outlet whose circuit has room for it. If Vellgus won't give one, the MitoMEGA 2.0 and MitoPRO 1500X avoid the question, with 451.5 W and 418.7 W measured at the wall on Mito's lab page. To read a wattage against a breaker, use our guide to home sauna electrical requirements.

Bar chart of published power: Vellgus max 300 1,500 W and Vellgus pro 600 W, both LED ratings with no measured draw published; MitoMEGA 2.0 450 W stated and 451.5 W measured; MitoPRO 1500X 445 W stated and 418.7 W measured; MitoPRO 750X 225 W stated; MitoMID 2.0 150 W stated and 170.3 W measured.

Mito's MitoPRO X manual adds details Vellgus doesn't publish:

  • The 300X, 750X and 1500X ship with a 16 AWG power cord, and the XL panels with 14 AWG.
  • Extension cords should be UL certified and rated for the panel's total load.
  • Near water, Mito recommends an outlet protected by a GFCI.
  • The operating temperature is 45°F to 115°F in the manual's warnings, while its parameters table gives 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F). Either range matters if the panel is going in an unheated garage or next to a sauna.

For an unheated garage, plan on 45°F to 104°F, where the manual's two ranges overlap.

Vellgus lists a plug on a 1.5 m (about 4.9 ft) cable. So plan a Vellgus panel's spot within that cable's reach of the outlet. We found no operating temperature range, GFCI note or extension cord guidance on vellgus.com. If your panel will share a room with a cold plunge, our guide to cold plunge electrical requirements covers GFCI protection in that setting.

Once Vellgus gives you the number and your circuit has room for it, order the max 300.

The Mito FDA listings that carry 510(k) numbers are for its masks and a hair device, not its panels. Pictured: a generic LED mask, for illustration.

Is Mito Red Light FDA approved? And is Vellgus?

We found no FDA approval or 510(k) clearance for either brand's panels in FDA's public databases, searched September 26, 2026.

Mito. FDA's Establishment Registration and Device Listing database shows Mito Red Light LLC of Scottsdale, Arizona, registered establishment number 3015313684. Its listed operations are "Specification Developer; Complaint File Establishment." Its panels, including the MitoPRO X, MitoPRO+ and Mito Red Original 2.0 series, are listed under product code ILY, an infrared lamp, Class II, 21 CFR 890.5500.

That regulation exempts the device type from 510(k) review, subject to limits, and the listing carries no 510(k) number. The MitoPRO 300X, 750X and 1500X also appear on a separate listing by Shenzhen Sungrow LED Technology Co., Ltd., registered as a manufacturer and foreign exporter.

Mito describes this three different ways:

  • Its homepage calls the panels a registered medical device, gives the number "#288202" and says it is "Independently verifiable on accessdata.fda.gov." That number is the record ID in the web address of Mito's establishment page in FDA's database (rl.cfm?rid=288202). Mito's registration number is 3015313684, and that page does show its active registration.
  • A FAQ on its red light collection page says "FDA registration means the device has been reviewed," though its next sentence says registration "is distinct from FDA clearance." FDA's rule says registration "does not in any way denote approval" (21 CFR 807.39).
  • The footer on every page says "These products have not been evaluated by the Food & Drug Administration."

Mito's FAQ says a subset of its products has 510(k) clearance. The FDA listings that carry 510(k) numbers are for its masks and a hair device, not its panels.

Vellgus. Vellgus's text says its panels are "FDA listed Class II devices," while a badge on the same pages says "FDA CLEARED." FDA's registration database returned 0 results for Vellgus as a proprietary name and as an establishment name, and FDA's 510(k) records have no Vellgus entry.

A registration and listing can sit under a manufacturer's or importer's name rather than the brand's, so this doesn't prove Vellgus is unregistered. It does mean nothing we found supports "cleared." Our Vellgus review covers this in more detail.

What this means for you: if an FDA claim is part of why you're buying, ask the maker in writing which FDA record backs it, and look it up in FDA's database before you order. For "cleared," that's a 510(k) number; for "registered," it's the registration and listing. Mito's listing is the one you can look up now; for Vellgus, ask which company name its panels are listed under (question 3 below).

Mounting and stands: door hook or floor stand?

Both makers ship a door hook with their mid-size and large panels. Neither publishes a load rating for the hook or any door size limits, so check your door against the panel's weight: 25 lb for the MitoMEGA 2.0 and 29.8 lb for the max 300. With no hook rating from either maker, our guide to what it takes to hang a red light panel covers what to check instead.

Stands are where they split. Prices are as of October 5, 2026:

  • Mito Original 2.0 series (MitoMIN, MID, MAX, MEGA): "The Mito Red Original 2.0 series is not stand compatible," per Mito's universal stand listing. The MitoMIN has a built-in tabletop stand, and the MID, MAX and MEGA ship with a door hook. Mito's own MitoMIN 2.0 page disagrees: its FAQ says floor and universal stand accessories are sold for it. Ask Mito which stand fits before you order one.
  • MitoPRO X: a $139 floor stand fits one 750X or one 1500X, but not the 300X or the MegaX. Mito says to add about 6 to 8 inches to the panel height on a stand. The MegaX comes with a steel L bracket for floor-to-wall installation.
  • MitoPRO+: a $139 floor stand fits one 1000+ or 1500+. The $349 universal stand works with MitoPRO+, MitoPRO X and MitoADAPT 4.0 setups, with exceptions Mito lists.
  • Vellgus pro: floor stand version $949 and flex mobile stand version $1,119, against $849 with the door hook.
  • Vellgus max 300: floor stand version $1,300 and flex mobile stand version $1,399 (on sale, regular $1,499). Under Vellgus's policy, stands are final sale.

So for a floor stand you can still send back, the 1500X on the MitoPRO X Floor Stand is the route; for a stand you'll keep, the max 300's floor stand version.

For room depth, the two makers publish different distances. Vellgus gives about 3 inches in one FAQ answer and 6 to 12 inches in another, with further bands out to 24 inches, and 10 cm on its guidelines page. Mito gives 6 to 18 inches for the MitoMEGA 2.0 and 12 to 18 inches for the MitoPRO X.

Read these only as the space each maker tells you to leave in front of the panel. Tape out the farthest figure your maker lists, 18 inches for Mito or 24 for Vellgus, then add room for you to stand.

Both warranties cover only the original purchaser buying from the maker or an authorized reseller. So buy from the maker or a reseller it authorizes.

What this means for you: by the large-panel table's Elective return row, no max 300 version could go back by choice at October 5, 2026 prices. The door hook version was on sale, and the other two are stands. On a Vellgus panel bought at regular price, a return within 30 days of purchase gives up 20% of the original price plus the shipping. A Mito return costs the shipping, unless you bought Mito's optional coverage.

If it fails later, Mito replaces it with a new unit, and Vellgus may fix it or send a new or refurbished one. If you want a way back and a third warranty year, that's the MitoPRO 1500X on its stand.

Recall history: does either brand have an open recall?

Mito has one, on a discontinued battery handheld. FDA's recall database showed no records under the Vellgus name on September 26, 2026. Because we couldn't find Vellgus in FDA's registration database under its own name either, that empty search tells you less than it would for a brand whose registration you can see.

FDA's recall database lists recall Z-2478-2026, Class II, for the "Mito Red Light, Super Mobile." FDA's record gives the manufacturer's reason as a lithium-ion battery that "may malfunction, causing it to catch fire." The recall began February 12, 2025, was posted June 17, 2026, and its status on September 26 was "Open, Classified."

Mito's own recall page says the Mito Mobile Super was sold from May 2023 through September 2024, and it offers owners a refund or a free MitoPRO Mobile.

Mito's recall page also says it is not selling "any battery-powered products with the sole exception of the MitoGLOW." Its store was selling the MitoPRO Mobile, which lists a 3,000 mAh battery, at $349 on September 26, 2026. The same recall page says the recall does not apply to the MitoPRO Mobile.

For the three panels compared here, the Mito recall changes nothing.

  3. Vellgus: which company name are your panels registered and listed under with FDA, and what 510(k) number stands behind the "FDA CLEARED" badge?
  4. Vellgus: does the pro weigh 4 kg or 6.6 kg?
  5. Mito: is the MitoPRO 1500X 10 by 43 inches or 42 by 9, does the manual's 25 lb "Gross Weight" include packaging, and does it carry the six wavelengths on its product page or the "Red 660nm + NIR 850nm" on the lab page?
  6. Mito: is the MitoMID 2.0 19 by 9 inches or 24 by 9, and does the MitoMIN 2.0 weigh 7 lb or 6 lb?
  7. Mito: which operating temperature range applies to the MitoPRO X panels, 45°F to 115°F or 32°F to 104°F?
  8. Mito: which stand fits the MitoMIN 2.0?

  10. Mito: is the MitoMEGA 2.0's lab figure at 6 inches more than 74 mW/cm² or the 67.5 peak, and do the EMF figures on its page belong to the MitoMEGA or the MitoMID?
  11. Either maker: for any other row in the table above that touches the model you're ordering, which figure is current?

When the makers write back, order the pick above that matches your spot.

Before you order

  1. Decide how likely you are to return the panel. Mito's 60 days with no restocking fee and Vellgus's 30 days with a 20% fee are the biggest practical difference between these brands. If a return is likely, buy Mito: the MitoMEGA 2.0 for a door, the MitoPRO 1500X for a stand.
  2. If you want a floor stand, don't buy a Mito Original 2.0 panel. Look at the MitoPRO X or MitoPRO+, or a Vellgus stand version.
  3. Ask Vellgus for the input rating on the panel's label, with the questions above. Mito already publishes its figures.
  4. Check the room's temperature range if the panel is going in a garage. Mito's MitoPRO X manual gives 45°F to 115°F in one place and 32°F to 104°F in another, so plan for 45°F to 104°F, where the two overlap. Vellgus publishes nothing.
  5. Measure the door or wall, and the floor in front of it out to the farthest distance the maker lists (18 inches for Mito, 24 for Vellgus), plus room for you.
  6. If you're buying Mito, order from Mito's store, with the MitoPRO X Floor Stand as a second item for a 1500X. If you're buying Vellgus, check whether your configuration shows a sale price. Sale items and stands are final. Then order the version you settled on: Check today's max 300 price at Vellgus
  7. For a Mito order over $800, plan to be home to sign.
  8. Inspect on arrival and report shipping damage within 10 days. Mito wants photos and video.

Common questions

Is Mito Red Light FDA approved?

We found no FDA approval or 510(k) clearance for any Mito panel on September 26, 2026. Mito Red Light LLC is registered with FDA and lists its panels under the infrared lamp category, 21 CFR 890.5500, which is exempt from 510(k) review, subject to limits. Mito's own footer says its products "have not been evaluated by the Food & Drug Administration."

What are Mito Red Light's EMF levels?

Mito says the MitoPRO X "emits no detectable EMF" at 6 inches or more. The MitoMEGA 2.0 page gives 0.5 to 1 mG "at close range," under a heading that names the MitoMID 2.0. Vellgus lists 0.0 µT at 4 inches, and neither maker names the meter used.

Does Mito Red Light have a stand?

Yes, for some lines. Mito sells $139 floor stands for the MitoPRO X (750X and 1500X only) and MitoPRO+, plus a $349 universal stand, but its Original 2.0 series (MitoMIN, MID, MAX and MEGA) "is not stand compatible."

What is the Mito Red Light warranty?

Two years on the Original 2.0 series and the MitoPRO Mobile, and three years on MitoPRO+, MitoPRO X and MitoADAPT 4.0, counted from delivery. Mito replaces rather than repairs, and pays the return label for the first 180 days.

Which has the better return policy, Vellgus or Mito?

On the written terms, Mito's: 60 days from delivery with no restocking fee. Vellgus allows 30 days from purchase with a 20% fee, and sale items and stands can't be returned by choice. Both leave return shipping to the buyer unless you pay for Mito's optional return coverage.

Your next step

Tonight, tape out the panel's spot and the floor in front of it, out to the farthest distance your maker lists. Note how far the nearest outlet is, against Vellgus's 1.5 m cable. Then send the maker the questions for your panel from the list above. The free Home Performance Room Planner walks through the measurements to take before you order a panel.

We read the makers' own documents cited above and FDA's databases, checked September 2026, and did not test these panels. This is general information, not electrical, code or medical advice, and it makes no claim about what red light does. Follow the maker's instructions and local requirements, and have a licensed electrician do any electrical work.
